NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (IGC) provides a broad

An understanding of health & safety issues, and is an essential qualification for
anyone working in or wanting to work in safety & health anywhere in the world. The NEBOSH
IGC enables you to apply for many different health and safety jobs, such as Health & Safety
Officer, Advisor, Superintendent, etc. in almost any industry.
The NEBOSH International Certificate is widely respected by employers worldwide and meets
the requirements for Technician Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH) and Associate Membership
of IIRSM (AIIRSM).

Unit IG1: Management of Health and Safety

Unit IG2: Risk Assessment

Assessment:

Unit IG1 is assessed by a scenario-based assessment completed at home. You have 24 hours to complete this.

Unit IG2 is assessed by a three-hour practical assessment carried out in your workplace (or another suitable workplace)

Throughout the year, exams are held every month.

The provisional pass mark for IG1 is 45%

Qualification grades

The qualification grade is based on the result from Unit IG1

Distinction: 75 marks or higher

Credit: 65 – 74 marks

Pass: 45 – 64 marks

Refer: 0-44

NEBOSH International General Certificate – units IG1

Units IG1 are part of Nebosh International General Certificate (2018 specification).

Confirmation of registration for IG1 digital assessment

Once your Learning Partner has registered you to a digital assessment, NEBOSH will send you a Confirmation of Registration email that includes your learner number, and important information relating to your digital assessment. Please ensure that you check your name is spelt correctly and report this to your learning partner and NEBOSH if any changes are required. If you have not received this email please remember to check your spam folders.

Login details

Following receipt of your Confirmation of Registration email for your digital assessment, NEBOSH will send you a further email containing your Username and Password for the NEBOSH online examination platform. If you haven’t received this email, please don’t hesitate to check your spam folders.

Assessment:

  1. Unit IG1 is assessed through a scenario-based assessment, which you complete remotely within 24 hours from home.
  2. Unit IG2 is assessed via a practical assessment conducted either in your workplace or another appropriate setting.

Exam language:

  • English language exams are available every month throughout the year.

 NEBOSH IG1 Closing Interview – What You Need to Know

If you’re applying for the NEBOSH IGC Open Book Exam (IG1), you must attend a closing interview after submitting your exam paper. This short online meeting with your learning partner confirms your identity and ensures the work is your own.

What Is the Closing Interview?

A mandatory one-to-one online session (via Zoom, Skype, Teams, etc.) held within two weeks of submitting IG1. Your answers will be recorded and sent to NEBOSH. If you miss it, your exam will not be marked.

Purpose

  • Verify your identity
  • Confirm the work was completed without outside help
  • Ask a few questions about your answers to check understanding
  • Note: The interview is not marked and does not affect your grade.

How It’s Scheduled

Your learning partner will set a date/time based on availability and notify you via email

What You’ll Need

  • Valid ID (passport, driver’s license, or national ID)
  • mobile with a camera and a microphone
  • Stable internet connection
  • Quiet, private space for 15 minutes

Interview Process

  • The interviewer introduces themself and explains the purpose.
  • You give consent for recording and show your ID.
  • Pan your room 360 degrees to confirm you are alone.
  • Ensure your room door is locked.
  • Answer three NEBOSH questions based on your exam submission.
  • Ensure no additional notes are used during the interview.

After the Interview

If there are no concerns, your result will be issued within NEBOSH’s standard timeline (about 50 working days). If malpractice is suspected, NEBOSH may investigate.
